A recent discussion has taken place on the Canard-Aviation forum about the age breakdown of the group. A pretty common conclusion is the average builder or flyer is over 40. Visit the fly-in at RR sometime to witness it yourself. I know there are several of us who are younger and are really excited about building. Hopefully this survey will shed some light on the subject.

24 years building a Long EZ

Good Day fellow Canardians...

I actually started putting my Long EZ together back in 1981. But, as is the case with many of us, real life got in the way and before I knew it the years had flown and the project had to wait until after retirement.

Am now retired, so I'm back at it, and could have it flying by the time I'm 65!

Started building when I was 43 and should have it finished by the
time I am 53. So which age group should I be in? ;)

I helped a friend build his Long-EZ in Tucsonin the early 80's - I was 19 at the time we began setting up to build. I built my first VariEze between the ages of 25 and 30, and my second between the ages of 36 and 40. I expect one more airplane to build, after the kids are through college (in about 12 more years). A Cozy Mk IV, perhaps???

First LEZ built was helping another USAF friend at 26 and started mine after his flew 22 months later. At the current ripe age of 51 it is hard to put into words the fun, friends, and fanatastic times the LEZ has introduced.

26 years of gestation for my Vari-EZ, N191RJ, by 3 builders. It first flew in 2004. Who beats that? (I mean having taken MORE years?). I should earn a place in the Guinness book of records!

I know some builders / operators who have no or reluctant computer / internet skills, so the statistics might be biased of course.
